Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Is insurance necessary for my static caravan?

The answer is clear—while there is no legal requirement to insure your static caravan, having insurance provides essential protection for your investment against various types of loss or damage. However, many caravan sites insist you have insurance in place as a condition of housing there.

Question: What insurance do I need for a static caravan?

Static caravan insurance generally includes cover for damage, fire, theft, and public liability. It's important to choose a policy that protects the caravan, and its contents and provides liability coverage in case someone gets injured or their property is damaged while on your site.

If you're planning on owning – or you already own – a static caravan on a holiday park or a residential park, you'll need an insurance policy to cover things like damage, fire, theft, accidents, and – most of the time – public liability cover.

Question: Why is my caravan insurance so expensive?
Newer caravans tend to cost more to insure as they have a higher market value and replacement cost. Older caravans may be cheaper to insure but could incur higher premiums if they lack modern safety features. Insurers consider the current market value of your static caravan to calculate the premium. As a side note, UK Sure Static Caravan insurance cover starts

from just £65 +IPT a year.

Question: Does caravan insurance cover dampness?
Caravan insurance could cover damp, but this largely depends on the specifics of the policy. The key to making the most out of your static caravan insurance is understanding your policy's coverage and conducting frequent, thorough maintenance of your property.

Question: Can you pay for your static caravan insurance monthly?
Many customers prefer to pay for their static caravan insurance monthly. At UK Sure, we offer a competitively priced 10-month finance insurance payment plan. To start your static caravan insurance click here.

Question: What happens to static caravans after 20 years?
It's not unusual to see static caravans from 20 – 30 years old end up on farms, building sites, or even people's back gardens. Whilst they can still be repaired and used, static caravans will always be around. When they become in disrepair, they can be stripped down and used for scrap.

Question: What is the 15-year rule for a static caravan?
At its core, the 15-year rule is based on the age of a static caravan and its ability to remain on a specific holiday park or site. Essentially, many UK holiday parks or sites have policies requiring static caravans older than 15 years to be removed from their premises.

Question: Who buys static caravans?

Several companies and individuals purchase old static caravans. Reputable static caravans traders like Static Trader, UK Caravans Direct, and Nationwide Caravans specialize in buying and selling static caravans. Additionally, individuals may purchase caravans for private use or resale, often through online platforms like Gumtree, eBay, or social media. If a caravan is in poor condition or has structural issues, it may be sold for scrap.

Specific Companies that Buy Static Caravans:

  • Static Trader: A national company that buys static caravans of all ages, makes, and models.

  • UK Caravans Direct: Buys static caravans and residential mobile homes, considering all types regardless of age or condition.

  • Nationwide Caravans: A reputable static caravan trader that provides a seamless selling experience.

  • Other Static Caravan Dealers: Many local and regional dealers also purchase caravans, often specializing in specific models or conditions.

  • Online Platforms: Individuals may sell caravans privately on platforms like Gumtree, eBay, or Facebook, but this can involve more time and effort.

Factors to Consider When Selling:

  • Condition: While many buyers will consider caravans in any condition, a caravan in good, repairable condition will fetch a higher price.

  • Age and Model: Newer and more popular models generally command higher prices.

  • Location: The location of the caravan on a holiday park or private pitch can also affect its value.

  • Cost of Delivery: Consider the cost of arranging delivery if you are selling privately.

  • Time and Effort: Selling privately can be time-consuming and involve more effort than selling to a dealer.

Absolutely 10/10 The service received from start to finish has been fantastic despite the complexity of the insurance required. Customer service received was superb in every way (specially Marco who has been super super helpful in securing the policy) at a great price too.
