International Licence Impound Insurance

At UK Sure, we offer competitively priced impound insurance for international licence holders.

We provide impound insurance for drivers holding an international driving licence who have had their car impounded by the police.

You are an international licence holder and your vehicle was impounded because you were driving uninsured?

You must know that: You can drive in the UK with an international license (as long as it is valid) for 12 months from the date you became a resident in the UK.

If you hold an international driving licence, and have been a resident in the UK for more than 12 months, then your licence is not longer valid, therefore you will need named driver impound insurance.

Wether you are an International Driving licence holder resident in the UK UK Sure can provide you with Impounded Car Insurance.

You can get an International Licence Impound Insurance quote online via our website.

Short-term impounded car insurance

UK Sure compound car insurance is a 30-day third-party policy only.

The 30-day policy requirement is an essential element as it helps to ensure your vehicle is not impounded again for not being insured once it leaves the compound.

Release your impounded vehicle with a named driver

Are you struggling to retrieve your impounded vehicle, perhaps as a banned driver unable to collect it?

Get quick and affordable impound insurance with UK Sure, designed specifically for your situation to help you recover your vehicle without delay.

When your vehicle is impounded, proof of insurance for the next 30 days is essential. Unfortunately, standard insurance policies often exclude coverage for impounded vehicles, especially for banned drivers or those who cannot retrieve their car. That's why our specialised impound insurance with named drivers is the ideal solution for these circumstances.

Why opt for our named driver impound insurance?

  • Rapid Release: We understand your urgent need to get your vehicle back on the road, ensuring a fast release to minimise delays.

  • Affordable: Daily storage fees and recovery costs can accumulate quickly. Our impound insurance provides a budget-friendly way to promptly recover your vehicle.

  • Streamlined: We’ve made the application process straightforward, allowing you to focus on retrieving your impounded vehicle while we take care of the details.

  • For Banned Drivers: Our named driver impound is tailored for banned drivers, enabling them to lawfully reclaim their vehicle.

At UK Sure, we specialise in offering named driver impound insurance that meets your needs, regardless of the obstacles you face. Trust UK Sure to navigate unique situations smoothly, so you can enjoy the freedom of the road again!

What happens to your vehicle when it's impounded?

If your vehicle is seized, it will be taken to a secure storage facility and held there until you provide proof of insurance and pay the necessary release fee. As stated previously, you have 14 days to get your vehicle back. The vehicle may be sold or crushed if you don't get it back within this period. While your car is in the impound, you will be charged a daily storage fee, which can add up quickly, so the sooner you resolve the situation, the better.

Can you get an impounded car released without insurance?

You can't get your vehicle out of an impound without insurance. You can only get your seized car back if you can prove it has valid insurance for at least 30 days.

Releasing your impounded vehicle

To release your impounded vehicle, you must provide proof of valid insurance and pay the fee. Also, you must ensure your vehicle is roadworthy and meets all safety and emissions standards. This ensures that once your car is back on the road, it complies with all legal and safety requirements.

What do I need to have to release my vehicle?

To get your impounded vehicle released, you will need:

  • The issued seizure notice or penalty ticket

  • Proof of insurance covering at least 30 days (Certificate of Insurance)

  • Proof of identity (driving licence)

  • Proof of vehicle ownership (V5 registration document)

  • Proof of address, such as a utility bill, council tax statement, or bank statement issued within the past 3 months.

  • Valid MOT certificate

  • Impound release fee

It's best to check with the impound lot beforehand to confirm what documents are required and the release fee. This will help speed up the process and get your vehicle back on the road as soon as possible!

Frequently Asked Questions

Question: What is international licence impound insurance?

International licence impound insurance is a specialist policy for drivers who do not hold a EU or UK full licence but need to release an impounded vehicle. It provides the 30-day cover required by the police compounds.

Question: I only have an International Licence. Can I still purchase impound insurance?

Yes, drivers with international licences may qualify to take out impounded car insurance, depending on their residency status and abililty to provide the correct documents.

Question: What documents are required to release my impounded car with an international licence?

To release your impounded car from the compound you will need the following:

Form 3708: you should have received this form, either from the police officer who confiscated the vehicle, or by post. This gives general guidance about how to recover your vehicle and you should include it with the documentation you take with you.
Proof of ownership: You may have to produce proof that you own the vehicle.

Your driving licence: a valid and up-to-date driving licence must be produced. If you are a learner driver, you need a qualified supervisor.

Proof of insurance: You will need to produce a certificate of insurance. You may be asked to show the email from the insurance company you bought it from, with a link to the policy documents.

A means of payment: There could be a charge for the vehicle being impounded in the first place, plus a daily storage charge.

I had a fantastic experience in the UK sure. It was my first time buying Impound insurance, and they were absolutely brilliant. They guided me through the entire process and even gave me a heads up on the documents I needed to take with me when I picked up my car. Oh, and there was a tiny mix-up with the date of birth on the insurance. I pointed it out, and they apologised and fixed it in a flash, within just 5 minutes
